Time for another golf major pool extravaganza!
The US Open starts a week from Thursday at Chambers Bay in Tacoma WA, a true links course on the shores of the Puget Sound. The track underwent major renovations after the 2010 US Amateur. It will play to a par 70 with the 1st and 18th holes alternating between a par 4 and a par 5, meaning if they play No. 1 as a par 4, No. 18 becomes a par 5 and if they make No. 1 the par 5, they’ll turn No. 18 into a par 4. First time anyone will try something like this in a golf tournament. The USGA can stretch the course to a record 7,827 yards if they so wish.
A few notes about the US Open:
- Last winner to defend his title: Curtis Strange in 1989 (Martin Kaymer won last year)
- Last multiple winner: Tiger Woods, who won his third US Open in 2008
- Last golfer to win in his first try: Francis Ouimet in 1913
- Oldest champion: Hale Irwin in 1990 at age 45
- Youngest champion: John McDermott in 1911 at age 19
- Americans have won 10 of the last 21 US Opens after winning 60 of previous 63

"Don't hit it there, dumbass!" lol! I agree. Whenever pros complain about high rough, I remember the line Ben Hogan had for one of them stuck in such a predicament: "It doesn't look so bad, I can still see your knees." |
