Did you watch Thrones ? The river/canal scene - tres cool But of course. In the book Tyrion gets the touch. They showed a wee patch of it on his arm on the show. As long as he does not touch his boatmate (my fave character) all is good !!!! I absolutely loved his little plea speech for wine " people who drink a lot of wine , need to drink a lot of wine" Ha Ha Ha

So.....
I had mixed emotions. Especially at the start.
But it developed and I'll continue to watch it.

It seems uneven and disjointed. Like a bunch of small skits tossed together.
Odd since Roland Jaffe also mad The Mission, a great movie.

A big part of the issue is I think they extended it to make 8 hours.
So all the crap that didn't make the 6 hour version gets stuck back in, required or not.

Still a monumentally talented writer , but the last 15 years sans an independent Editor all his books are too long. You just have to read 400 pages to enjoy the 300 good ones.

It's more than that though. Some characters seem wooden. And stereotypes abound. And some scenes could seeming come from some Monty Python sketch where they are scurrying around a field somewhere.

We have way too much stuff already time wise anyways due to a couple of reasonably interesting Hockey games next few nights...

I'm sure the less discriminating who are happy watching Survivor or the Great Race or whatever the fuck will probably be more than happy.

Have reasonable expectations Harry... It's "OK". Pretty good acting but the scripts are a little thin. Sledgehammering the "Yellow Rose" myth into this is a bit much for me. It's worth a view... probably not worth a second one though.

Texas Rising has the feel of a Hallmark movie.

Seems to me History Channel is trying to hit that mother lode they found with "Vikings"... first with "Sons of Liberty" last year and now with "Texas Rising". It's a shame because with the exception of Kris Kristofferson, the cast is capable of delivering a quality product. Even the dude who played Dewey Crowe in "Justified". The writing is substandard.
