WATERLOO, Iowa —Police said a man caught passing counterfeit cash was making the bills at home using a color printer. Brett Wehrle, 30, of Waterloo, was charged with 10 counts of forgery for passing the $5, $10 and $20 bills. A clerk at a gas station who refused to accept one of the bills Monday called police to report the counterfeit cash. Police said that Wehrle returned to the same store later in the day to cash in a lottery ticket and a description of his car led police to find his registration. Police said a search warrant was obtained for Wehrle’s home. Officers said they found several counterfeit bills, a color scanner/printer, paper and other items used in making counterfeit money.
