Turmoil hits Dez Bryant’s inner circle; rift between old adviser, new agents clouds contract talksAfter reading this article, I had a few thoughts. - At some point, Dez was going to make this move. While the "Dez rules" were appropriate for his first contract, it was only a matter of time before he would want to move away from that. Whether he has the maturity or not - this was inevitable.
- The "old advisors" are nothing more than Cowboys "insiders" who have been at Jerry's beck and call for years. Royce West... David Wells... they men were around when Irvin went through his "issues"... when Eric Williams rammed his car into a concrete wall... when Pacman was here and needed "a hand"... and are Jerry's go-to's when a young black man on the team needs "guidance and direction".
- Best thing the Cowboys can do here - nothing. They need to treat this for what it is - pure business. The franchise tag is in place. Dez will get paid. Let this thing play itself out... and after the dust settles, then go to Roc Nation and see where contract negotiations can go. If they don't "go"... then Dez gets franchised again next year. After that - he's free.
I really hope Dez is here for his entire career. He is everything Cowboy Dave and I hoped he would be when he was drafted. But the reality is this three year window that most feel the Cowboys are in to win means that they are going to have to make some seriously hard choices in a couple of seasons. And - if Romo is on the downside at that point, it might be better for everyone involved if the Cowboys don't have to make the same decision then that they did with Ware. And - by that time - maybe the Stephen/Jason/Will troika will be firmly in charge then and we won't have anymore Greg Hardy signings.

What I think will happen however - either he will set the new market for WR salaries or D. Thomas will... or Roddy White will get resigned and set it. Those three are the new benchmarks. The question is... who is first and do they get Megatron-money?
