An absolute legend - doesn't matter who you root for. Last of the two-way players and one of the toughest sonofabitches ever to lace 'em up.
Damn near killed Frank Gifford. That is all. RIP.

"Those were the days my friend." I started watching the NFL in 1960, Connerly was the QB that game. He always said it was a cheap shot, but it wasn't.
" Gifford was quoted as telling his wife in the hospital room, “He didn’t mean it, Honey...He had to make the play...But it was clean.”
It really was a different game back then. Sam Huff and all of them and RBs not running out of bounds because they would just hit you after you did anyways. And QBs were human pinatas.
That is why any discussion about who is the GREATEST QB or any position is totally impossible. Tom Brady is a man for his era, but if anyone thinks he would still be playing the game the way they played it before the violence and mayhem and true thuggery was taken out of the game is wrong.
Weird- after their big '60 season, the Eagles sucked for what seemed like forever..

They were doing something right. Interesting. I am not so sure your statement is true about living longer. Not at all. I suppose one would have to look up teams roster for a given year, say 1960, and see how many are still alive. You read about a guy today living that long and you think that is the way it is for all of them. Hmmm? may just look around for that sometime soon.

THAT guy single-handedly willed the '60 Eagles to the championship i.m.o. I was only 3, so I didn't see it live, of course. But he was the toughest SOB ever.
Two-way terror...

When they did not have that rock solid helmet, they did NOT lead with their heads.

Two-way terror...He only missed 3 non-special teams plays in the '60 championship game. It was before my football awareness but that is absolutely one tough SOB.
