Dez getting franchised is not news. But this little tidbit was. DMN Cowboys free-agent series (quarterback): Club likes Weeden as back-up but could shop aroundWhat got my attention was Garrett's comment regarding Weeden... "Obviously, we feel really good about Tony. He had an outstanding year for us last year. Brandon did a really nice job in his opportunities. If you look at what he did — he played in three games, two he came in relief for us and the one game he started, we didn’t play our best game on offense. But it was against a really good defensive team in Arizona. We still feel like he’s a young player who needs to play more. He’s really growing before our eyes."I looked at what he did against Arizona. After a full week of practice and preparation to be the starter, he looked overmatched and incapable of making rudimentary plays to sustain drives. Yes - the entire offense was bad but that's when you need your QB to make a few plays to keep drives going and get your offense in sync. He couldn't. I heartily endorse "shopping around".

I wholeheartedly agree. Weeden is meh if I was looking for a back-up potential bridge QB I'd be looking at Locker or Ponder they aren't much of an upgrade but their ceiling is much higher. If they are looking for a QB that might steal a game as a back-up but their ceiling has been reached there is Matt Moore Colt McCoy or Shaun Hill but there would be a peasants revolt if they ended up as the bridge QB AR (after Romo) Then there are the take a flier on types to bring in in the hopes that they finally get it like VY or Josh Freeman but I doubt I'd want them as my back-up although if they finally get it, ie Gannon or Randall or going back farther Plunkett, they would be good bridges also

Let him sit and heal and learn. To me he's one of those guys that should have sat a year or two to learn the game. Way too many QB's get thrown to the wolves unprepared to play the pro game.

He will not be released. He might get traded but that would be doubtful too
