Looks like they plan to let Murray walk. AP anyone? Rumor is they have a 4 YR $16M offer on the table for him. Can't say that if I were him I'd take that.
Bigger question - what is the market for a quality RB who just had a 400 carry season. Methinks he is about to find out and unless the Cowboys do a deal with Dez before the FA period starts and still have the franchise tag in their pocket, Demarco is gone. Because - SOMEONE will overpay.
That is an average RB contract these days he doesn't strike me as a average RB they don't up it he's gone

That is an average RB contract these days he doesn't strike me as a average RB they don't up it he's gone That will be his argument and rightly so. Truth is it's not even average. If you toss out AP and Shady, the average of the next 10 RB's is $6.3M per year. I could see Jerry going into that area depending on negotiations. However - put AP (avg $14.4M per year) and Shady ($9M) in there and the average jumps to $7.8M. I will bet a billion eBucks there is no way Jerry goes there - even with the franchise tag.
Dez is the lynchpin to all this.

My fear? Murray signs the contract and goes back to injuries and coughing the ball up

My fear? Murray signs the contract and goes back to injuries and coughing the ball up I do worry about the number of carries and the wear and tear. There is a history with RB's that's hard to overlook. Gonna be difficult to slot him when you look at the $4/4.5M backs (Mathews; Jackson; friggin James Casey; CJ and Bush) then the next level Forte; Lynch; Stewart; Charles; Gore; Spiller; friggin' Trent Richardson) and make sense of where he "fits".
I know this - he doesn't fit in the AP/Shady/Foster salary window.

tablet.sportingnews.com/2015-01-15/sn-cowboys-capped-out.htmlMore to come... but they will have plenty of cap space to do what they want without having to touch Romo's contract. And - that's important. They need to leave his deal alone. Everything should be based on a three year plan and they will have plenty of wiggle room to do that.

Yes it is average you just showed us the above average there are after all 32 starting RB's in the NFL It's not the top 10's average it's the next 10's average that would be average. Wow that's a lot of averages in one sentence. The actual; average is about 1.5M but that includes all RB's including ST aces that have RB as their position for number allotment Here are #10 to 20's salaries for 2014 10 Jonathan Stewart $4,585,000 11 Steven Jackson $4,166,666 12 Toby Gerhart $4,000,000 13 Fred Jackson $3,850,000 14 Ryan Mathews $3,612,000 15 Shonn Greene $3,233,333 16 Knowshon Moreno $3,000,000 17 Reggie Bush $2,944,444 18 Chris Johnson $2,750,000 19 Maurice Jones-Drew $2,500,000 20 Mark Ingram $2,359,875
