I'm not even sure if Dalton is better than Jeff Blake yet. meh, relying on just a league MVP is weak. shaun alexander won one...he was out of football what, 2 years later? 1988 was a very, very odd year...he won by default (and i was a big boomer fan as a kid) they led the league in scoring, mostly why he got it

He won it in the year he played. Running backs can lose it in an instant. And no, Boomer didn't win it by default. He was excellent that season, particularly the first 10-12 games or so. Believe me, I remember. I hated that team. I stood up and did the Ickey shuffle in front of the TV watching the game with a basement full of Bengal marks seconds after Taylor caught the TD pass in the Super Bowl. Dalton is in no way, shape, or form a better player than Boomer Esiason at this point.

That was the first year of Buffalo becoming who they would eventually become. Ickey Woods for sure. He was THE star of the league that year.

I was just going off the top of my head. And a 97 rating in 1988 equates to what in today's game? 110? 120?

Randall Cunningham threw for 3800 yards, 24 TD's, and rushed for 624 yards and 6 TD's. And yeah, Boomer led in all those things, on the best team in football that year...which means he deserved it.

Here is the thing. If Dalton wins 1 Bowl and keeps his stats up he is a shoe in. If he just keeps his stats up..he had a chance.

Boomer had a 129 QBR+ that year
Josh McCown this past year had his own 129 QBR+ Which was a 109 rating. Good for 3rd behind Peyton and Foles
So if QBR+ is accurate measure (you be the judge)
97=109 by today's standards..

They will definitely give him credit for having a big part in turning that franchise around. They are still my dark horse for this year.

I think last year was their opportunity though. They had the best roster in the AFC and they blew it.
