So when I see the Phillies play in August will they be completed out of it? They are last in their division, 10 games out now. And, there is ZERO out there about them being buyers, with a lot of talk of them being sellers. So, yes. The bright side, likely fewer Philly fans to fight with...... OH WOW - did not know they were 10 out! Yup, pretty much will still be out in August. lol. I am going with a Phillies fan so I should be all good... And she is attractive female so I know I'll be good!

They have 1 its called a QS Quality Start Now the disagreement is what a QS should be most teams want a starter to go 6 and give up less than 4 runs cause the team has a chance to win anything over 6 is a bonus and most teams score 4 runs per game some dont like it cause its a 4.50 era if u change it to 7ip/2er there wont be many QSs My humble opinion is that a QS should be anything that is at least 6 innings pitched that will result in a 3.99 ERA or lower. 6 /2 is 3.00 6/3 is 4.5 7/3 is 3.85 if it changed to 7/3 it would be cut in half there are 1448 QS this year would be 771 if changed which i think it should and make QS =W and anything over a 5 era a loss no matter what the team does

Just thinking about Sale's start last night. he'll get a no decision so no W/L but it really should count as a win (made the bosox look foolish for most of the night). Maybe come up with some league or park average runs against and if the pitcher leaves the game holding that team to less than that they get a W+ (or whatever). They have 1 its called a QS Quality Start Now the disagreement is what a QS should be most teams want a starter to go 6 and give up less than 4 runs cause the team has a chance to win anything over 6 is a bonus and most teams score 4 runs per game some dont like it cause its a 4.50 era if u change it to 7ip/2er there wont be many QSs maybe change the Q/S to 2 er in 5 or 3 ers in 7.

Well done Iceman. So, scrap wins and losses, and replace them with this new metric of quality and non-quality starts.

For the first half of the game, it has been quite the pitchers duel in the Brewers / Phillies matchup today.

Actually, it would have sat better with me, and probably even with Twins fans, if Tulo had just brought Morneau with him for the N.L squad.

Some quick hits -
C J Wilson to the D/L with a right ankle strain.
Brandon Phillips to the D/L with a torn thumb ligament. He could be out as long as 2 months.
Yadi Molina to the D/L with the same thing as Phillips.
Time to check your leagues wavier wire!

Dozier's having a really good year, so it's nice to see him getting some recognition.

I should switch my teams name to "ALL DL" Though "Up In Smoke" seems appropriate as well

Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino started (or, more accurately, re-started) a minor-league rehab assignment yesterday at Single-A, going 0-for-2 with two strikeouts at the plate and playing five innings defensively in right field.
Victorino has been on the disabled list since mid-May with a strained hamstring, but back problems repeatedly derailed his recovery process and have now taken over as the primary issue for rehabbing. He could be cleared to rejoin the Red Sox’s lineup shortly after the All-Star break, but will have to stay setback free while playing a full nine innings in the minors first and that hasn’t happened yet.

On July 11, 1914, the Boston Red Sox gave a 19 year-old pitcher the start. They had just purchased his contract from the minor league Baltimore Orioles a week before. The delay in getting to Boston was due to the Sox being on a road trip down to Washington. There was no rush to get him on a train, so he cooled his heels for a few days. No need to change plans for some kid named Babe Ruth. Ruth would tell people later that, that very morning, he met his future wife, Helen Woodford, that morning when she served him in a coffee shop. Others have cast doubt on this. Regardless of the truth, it was a big day for the guy, both in reality and in his memory years later. That afternoon Ruth made his big league debut. He pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on three hits and picked up the win. He only struck out one guy, though. Which was the same number of times he struck out while batting, as he posted an 0 for 2 day. He lost his next start and after that wasn’t used by the Sox all that much, pitching in only five games all year. The Red Sox weren’t really the big news in Boston that year anyway. The Braves won the World Series and became something of a sensation in doing so. The box score info, for the ultra hard core fans www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/BOS/BOS191407110.shtml

No words from me on this one.
Derek Jeter‘s business interests aren’t limited to children’s books. He’s also into underwear referred to as “Tempur-Pedic banana hammocks.” From Page Six, of course:
Move over, Victoria, Derek Jeter has an even bigger “secret.”
The Yankee slugger’s retirement plan includes becoming an underwear mogul, Page Six has learned.
The slugger is a secret owner of Frigo RevolutionWear — a customized men’s underwear brand that sells skivvies more colloquially known as “Tempur-Pedic banana hammocks.” The high-tech undies sell for $100 a pair and include a “soft lock adjustment system” plus a “patented pouch” dubbed the “Frigo Zone.” (We’ll leave the zone’s location to your imagination.) The guy who runs the company has said that the product “separates your genitals from the rest of your body . . . It lifts a little bit so [guys] feel the comfort.”
$100 for that? Hasn’t anyone ever heard of Gold Bond?
And while I know it’s a cliche to note this every single time this kind of thing comes up, I really do wonder how this would be received if A-Rod was an investor

Grady Sizemore joined the Phillies on a minor league contract after he was released by the Red Sox late last month and Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports that he has been added to the major league roster.
Sizemore batted .289 (13-for-35) with one home run and one double over 10 games during his time Triple-A Lehigh Valley. After missing two seasons due to injury, the 31-year-old hit just .216 with two home runs and a .612 OPS in 52 games before the Red Sox cut ties with him last month, but he could play a few days a week in Philadelphia’s outfield. For what it’s worth, he saw playing time at all three outfield spots in Triple-A.
The Phillies transferred left-hander Cliff Lee from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Sizemore, but that was strictly a procedural move. He’s still on track to return from the disabled list next Friday against the Braves.

ARLINGTON -- The phone rang halfway through the eighth inning.
The call was regarding Chris Gimenez, the Rangers' backup catcher. In just a few moments, he would trot out to the mound for the ninth inning, making his first Major League pitching appearance with Texas trailing by 11 runs.
The Rangers, who lost to the Angels, 15-6, on Thursday night, had decided to use Gimenez to close the game in order to save an already taxed bullpen.
Gimenez's outing marked the eighth instance in Rangers history in which the club decided to call on a position player, Gimenez being the seventh player used. Mitch Moreland pitched in Colorado on May 6.
Immediately, Gimenez attempted to calm himself down.
"Obviously it's not something you ever really want to do, slash, you kind of do," Gimenez said. "You never really want to have to go pitch, but I figured since I was going to have to do it, you might as well have fun with it."
Before the inning began, Gimenez and fellow catcher Robinson Chirinos had agreed that Gimenez would throw mostly fastballs. The last time he pitched was in an Alaskan league of college summer ball. He joked his ERA was 36.00.
With his 87-mph fastball, a few changeups and one knuckleball, Gimenez retired all three Angels batters he faced.
David Freese grounded out, C.J. Cron struck out swinging and Hank Conger flied out to center field.
"I'm a catcher, so I kind of have an idea. I'm not trying to throw the ball 95 [mph], I'm just trying to throw it and let them get themselves out because it's hard enough to hit off a position player as it is," Gimenez said. "In the fourth inning, I didn't really have an idea, but obviously that's a situation where it could present itself, so I went ahead and told [coach Tim Bogar], 'Hey, if you need me, I'm good.'"
Chirinos said that the fact that Gimenez had to pitch was a bad sign in itself.
"It means they've scored a lot of runs," Chirinos said.
But he added he was proud of his fellow catcher.
"He threw a couple pitches," Chirinos said, "got some quick outs and gave us a chance to get out of that inning quick -- saved our bullpen a little bit."
