The Red Wings skate into Tampa Bay hoping to move three points up on Steve Yzerman's Lightning. Here's hoping that Henrik Zetterburg stays hot, no one gets hurt and somehow the biscuits keep going in the basket until Jimmy Howard is back...Petr (buy a vowel, LOL) Mracek is letting in a lot of cheeseball goals... The good old hockey game is the best game you can get...and the best game you can get is the good old hockey game.

Petr (buy a vowel, LOL) Mracek is letting in a lot of cheeseball goals...
Damn, I hate to quote myself but nobody was confusing this Czech with countryman Dominik Hasek in Tampa last night.
Dude stopped only 10 of 15 shots through two periods and was replaced by Tom McCallum. Game, set, match Stevie Y's Stars (Lightning)5, Good Guys(?) 1.
Cedric Paquette got the hat trick, even if he is a "one trick pony" considering he increased his season goal scoring output by 50% in just one night (6 going in, 9 going out) thanks to not so stellar D and the man between the pipes leaking like the rusty ten year old radiator on the Dodge.
For those scoring at home, this is four straight games that the Wings have allowed four goals or more. In a league where goals are as hard to come by as four days in a row that the sun is out here in Motown...
While giving props to the Red Wings for the six-game winning streak, I am now officially on the Jimmy Howard watch clock...Tick tick tick.
Next up for the Wings...the rejuvenated Islanders at Joe Louis tomorrow night.

The Red Wings are in Colorado tonight for their first game since defeating the Islanders at Joe Louis Arena. The season resumes (finally). Then they travel to Phoenix to take on the Coyotes Saturday night. (Is it Ky-oh-tees or Ky-Oats)I hear that west of the Mississippi it is the latter. If not, the former.
Petr Mrazek starts in goal. Expecting Jimmy Howard back on the active roster for the next game after Arizona (Wednesday February 11).
The Wings otherwise, besides F Johan Franzen and G Jonas Gustavsson, are pretty healthy. They could really use a return from Gustavsson and he may be back any day. This is the annual Hockey Dads trip. Bring the boys luck, dads!

Tough stretch here for the boys.
First they get completely blown up in Pittsburgh. Well, the Pens and Boston have their number. The Wings are skilled and fast. Pittsburgh is more skilled and fast. Boston is much more physical.
The debacle vs. Winnipeg was not pretty. Of course this was Jimmy Howard's return, and the rust showed. Dropped a 3-1 lead, then the obligatory shootout debacle (Jets 5, Wings 4). I hate the shootout but the Wings are picking up a point every time that they lose one.
So now the offense goes into hibernation in a lackluster home game vs the Canadiens. This 2-0 loss last night hurt as Detroit falls to 0-3 vs. Montreal for the season, and six points behind the Habs.
Hopefully Teemu Pulkkinen (RW from Grand Rapids), who was called up at noon today (Petr Mrazek was sent down) can put some "biscuits in the basket". He accrued 30 goals and 27 assists in 44 games down there.
Next up: A date in Chicago with the Blackhawks tomorrow night. It isn't getting any easier.

Red Wings 3, Blackhawks 2.
Shootout? Yes. Yer kidding me. Detroit victory. No! Yes?
Nice rebound win in a game where Detroit was not playing well at all early.
Didn't give up on the road against a very good hockey team.
Tomas Tatar continues to develop into a star player (one regulation goal and a SO goal).
Gustav Nyquist and Tatar score shootout goals.
Jimmy Howard gets rocked with SOGs and survives convincingly.

WOW!
Wings 7, Stars 6.
First time since 1934 that a team trailed by two goals in the third period, tied it up and then fell behind by two goals again and tied it up again!
Then win it! Great job Kronwall!

See you there..... with Pierre? I'd love to be there but not going to happen. My wife has PT for her knee at 5:00 this afternoon (I have to take her, she can't drive with torn patella) and will not be done until nearly game time. This is exhibit 2 of why I am so happy that the Red Wings are back in the Eastern Conference. Number one is that I don't have to stay up until 2 AM Eastern time watching games from LA, SJ, Anaheim and Vancouver. Number two is I get the chance to see the Wings vs. the Canadiens, Bruins, Rangers and Maple Leafs much more frequently. Going to be a good one nyr. And Canuck is rooting for the good guys, Eh! The Rangers are playing well and I just wish I could be there tonight. And maybe get a swing in on douchebag Pierre. Eh, Edzo?

Amazing that in less than two full NHL seasons Tomas Tatar already has a new clothing line of his very own!
Him and Gustav Nyquist are really fun to watch. But a clothing line already?
If Gordie Howe played in this era, I guess he'd have a clothing line, a custom furniture line, a custom car line, a custom home line, yacht line...alright already you see where I am going here...

Yep hopefully it is a good game; and a sign of things to come this Spring. Ha, good one. She actually is on her 5th operation. Memorial Day 2011. 96 degree day. Went motorcycling with her. Loose gravel caused her to dump her bike on her left knee. Fractured knee cap, split tibia. Botched ER job at the hospital. I had an appointment the morning after the night I got her home with our orthopedic surgeon (I was rehabbing a torn bicep). I asked if she wanted me to make her an appointment. She said no, she was going to come with me because her knee was swelled and ballooned up. The ortho was furious with the ER at the hospital. They had not cleaned it up right and it was dangerously infected. He drained 500cc of blood and scheduled an operation for two days later. In the interest of condensing the story, it would not heal correctly. As a result it has needed to be opened up four more times. This time, it appears that with a second osteotomy with stem cells, that it is healing really well. It would be great to see the wings-Rangers square off in the playoffs!

The New Jersey Devils beat the New York Rangers even when they are down, or not playing them directly.
Marek Zidlicki, acquired by the Red Wings from the Devils at Tuesday's trading deadline, scored the winner in OT for Detroit in the team's 2-1 victory. Splendidly played game with good goaltending. 39 saves for Jimmy Howard.
This will be a fun series if it materializes in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
