Let's gather everyone's Arod Predictions
A- On Yankee opening day roster
B- Yankees and Arod negotiate buyout
C- Yankees release Arod and eat 61 million
D- Yankees find a trade partner while eating about 80% of that money (minimum)
E- Forced to retire due to debilitating hip issues OR not medically cleared, Yankees collect insurance money
F- He and CJ fall in love and run off to the Carribean
G- other

I think behind the scenes there is some negotiation.
The only thing that would motivate A-Rod is his ego. At 40+ years old, coming off a season he didn't play following a season that he played a third of the games awfully, he may be worried that he would be terrible and his ego won't allow him to be a .240 hitting DH.
If the Yankees get him to "agree" with their doctors that he is unable to physically play, he gets his money, saves face and the Yankees don't have to deal with him.
now, the insurance fraud part of this would be a hurdle

I'm sure the doctors would just sign off on it and nobody would be able to prove differently. After the doctors get their Augusta membership renewed by the Yanks, of course. |
